Vinay Vijayakumar

Postdoctoral Research Associate

Vinay Vijayakumar is a Postdoctoral Research Associate (Engineering) specializing in real-time computer vision systems, sensor fusion, and field-deployable automation. With over five years of hands-on experience, he has designed, built, and tested intelligent systems for agricultural applications, including vision-guided smart sprayers and real-time robotic platforms.
His current work focuses on developing a tractor-mounted perception system, creating custom software-hardware pipelines that integrate camera inputs, GPS data, microcontroller communication, and GUI interfaces, optimized for low-latency performance and robustness in field conditions.
Vinay holds a Ph.D. in Agriculture and Biological Engineering (with a focus on CV and AI in Agriculture) and an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Florida. His multidisciplinary background supports a strong end-to-end engineering approach — from prototyping, computer vision, mechatronics and deep learning to field validation.
He has multiple publications in leading journals and has presented at national and international conferences in the U.S. He is passionate about applying AI-driven solutions to real-world agricultural challenges, aiming to improve sustainability, efficiency, and food security.
