Sushant Dhakal
Undergraduate Researcher
Sushant Dhakal is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. His research includes enhancing agricultural safety by developing a system to stop ag machinery in a fraction of a second after a potential accident is detected.
Prior to joining MSU, Sushant worked for Space Foundation Nepal, and contributed to Nepal’s second satellite project, Munal, as an On-Board Computer (OBC) developer. He also helped create CubeOS, an open-source operating system aimed at speeding up nanosatellite development by 40%. Sushant also mentored a group of middle school students from the most marginalized, underprivileged Chepang community of Nepal on the Slippers2Sat project, guiding them through the fundamentals of electronics and computers.
He has published his research on CubeOS in the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) 2024 titled “CubeOS: A PX4 inspired flight software for Nepal’s next-generation CubeSat
bus”. Sushant’s technical skills include PCB design, embedded systems programming, 3D modeling, simulation, hardware design, and testing. He also has experience in RTOS, soldering, and components fabrication, and has been featured in various national newspapers in Nepal.
