Dr. Hussein Gharakhani is an assistant professor in the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering at Mississippi State University, where he focuses on robotics and automation in agriculture. His primary research interests include robotic arms and end-effectors.

He holds a BSc in Mechanical Engineering of Agricultural Machinery from the University of Tabriz in Iran and a MSc in the same field from the University of Tehran. He earned his Ph.D. in Biosystems Engineering from Mississippi State University.

He has been working on machinery, automation, and robotics, with more focus on agriculture, since 2005. His professional journey includes seven years in the industry, where he contributed to the development of various machines, mechanisms, and automated systems ranging from crop harvesting technologies to diesel water pumps.

Dr. Gharakhani's specialization lies in robotic manipulators, robotic end-effectors, artificial intelligence, 2D and 3D perception, sensors, and control systems. His innovative work includes designing an end-effector inspired by a lizard's tongue to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of cotton harvesting.
